Hinterland Luna Coffee Stout

Ryan: The Luna Coffee Stout is the third beer I’ve had from this Green Bay based brewery and restaurant. They also have a Gastropub in Milwaukee and an affiliated inn and restaurant in Fish Creek, Wisconsin. All three of these beers came by way of “Frequent Commenter Ben,” who snagged them on a recent trip up north.
The Amber Ale, which I did not review here, was an interesting twist on what can be a rather mundane style. There was a certain roasty-ness and kick of caramel that set it apart. The second offering I sampled was the Winter Land, which I enjoyed while watching people trying to dig out from 20 inches of snow in Chicago. As a stand alone porter this beer was solid, but what really did it for me was the addition of juniper berries that gave it a nice aroma of freshly sanded wood. I actually sampled the Luna Coffee Stout the same day as the Winter Land but thought I would save it for another time. This is that time. Continue reading
