Frankenmuth Brewery Celebrates 150 Years

In Beer News by Ryan

Frankenmuth Brewery, one of the oldest breweries in the country, is celebrating its 150th anniversary by brewing a beer blended with a really, really old beer.

The Detroit Free Press reports the 150th Anniversary Frankenmuth Dark Lager went on sale this week and should hit store shelves across Michigan the week of December 3rd.

“Celebrating 150 years of brewing history, Frankenmuth Brewery this week filled and labeled 1,862 bottles of a limited edition dark lager that includes some of an original batch of Frankenmuth Dark, first brewed in the 1940s.

The original Frankenmuth Dark — which was kept under lock and key for an occasion such as this — was blended into the anniversary beer by brewmaster Jeff Coon.

The anniversary bottles, which will sell for $24.99 each, are hand-labeled, numbered and signed by Coon to validate their authenticity.”

Frankenmuth Brewery is located in Frankenmuth which, if you’re using your hand as a map – as many Michiganders do – is located in the meaty part of your right hand between your thumb and index finger.

If you are unfamiliar with the hand map, or prefer a more traditional approach to locating cities, then Frankenmuth is off I-75 between Saginaw and Flint.
