{"id":163,"date":"2010-04-02T13:30:47","date_gmt":"2010-04-02T18:30:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.guysdrinkingbeer.com\/?p=163"},"modified":"2021-08-25T19:35:09","modified_gmt":"2021-08-26T00:35:09","slug":"stone-bourbon-barrel-imperial-russian-stout","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.guysdrinkingbeer.com\/stone-bourbon-barrel-imperial-russian-stout\/","title":{"rendered":"Review: Stone Bourbon Barrel Imperial Russian Stout 2008"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Stone Imperial Russian Stout Aged in Bourbon Barrels<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Russian Imperial Stout, 11.5% ABV<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I had this on draft at the <a title=\"Arrogance Is Bliss: A Night of Stone Brewing in Chicago\" href=\"https:\/\/www.guysdrinkingbeer.com\/stone-chicago\/\">Twisted Spoke<\/a> April 1st.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know what I was more excited about, the fact that this was a &#8217;08 Imperial Russian Stout or that it was aged in bourbon barrels.\u00a0 Probably a little of both.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.guysdrinkingbeer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/stonebbairs.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-165 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.guysdrinkingbeer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/stonebbairs.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.guysdrinkingbeer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/stonebbairs.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.guysdrinkingbeer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/stonebbairs-600x450.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.guysdrinkingbeer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/stonebbairs-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As you can see in the picture this beer is gorgeous.\u00a0 Once you get over the fact that it was served in a clear, plastic cup, that is.\u00a0 Just look at the thick khaki, tan head on this beer.\u00a0 So Awesome.<\/p>\n<p>OK, enough with the staring.\u00a0 A generous sniff opens with a big shot of bourbon, oak, vanilla and cocoa.\u00a0 The flavor coincides with the taste.\u00a0 Lots of bourbon and generous amounts of vanilla.\u00a0 It&#8217;s very smooth but, boy, does this beer burn on the way down.\u00a0 And I mean ALL the way down.\u00a0 After that subsides you&#8217;re left with a lingering taste of oak and vanilla on your palate.\u00a0 As it warms cocoa joins the party making for a spectacular beer.<\/p>\n<p>This is easily one of my favorite barrel aged beers.\u00a0 It&#8217;s right up there with the likes of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guysdrinkingbeer.com\/2010\/04\/08\/from-the-cellar-founders-kbs-3-year-vertical-2008-2010\/\">Founders KBS<\/a> and Goose Island&#8217;s Bourbon County Stout.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What&#8217;s better than a pour of a two year old Russian Imperial Stout?
