Well, now we do. Just this one. Packed with real pumpkins, hints of spice, and a gentle kiss of cocoa to liven the soul. An everyday easy way to fill your squashy quotient. Guess now folks will have to find something else to joke about&#8230;&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Jolly Pumpkin La Parcela<br \/>\nPumpkin Ale, 6% ABV<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Sayeth the Guys:<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Karl: <\/strong> Out of all the pumpkin offerings that Ryan has amassed for us, this was honestly the one I was most looking forward to. \u00a0Promised as a pumpkin beer with cacao and sour tartness, and with my head full of thoughts of our tasting of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guysdrinkingbeer.com\/2010\/05\/05\/review-jolly-pumpkins-madrugada-obscura\/\">Madrugada Obscura<\/a> (which still requires a spellcheck), I had high hopes for this one. \u00a0I think we were punked, honestly.<\/p>\n<p>The label very prominently refers to the fact that though the brewery is named Jolly Pumpkin, they hadn\u2019t up until that point brewed an actual pumpkin beer. \u00a0I imagine they get tired of this line of questioning at the various brewpubs they operate in Michigan, but I have little sympathy &#8211; they chose the name, after all. \u00a0If I started Happy Cherry brewing, everyone would be well within their rights to ask, \u201cso when\u2019s your take on the Cerise coming out?\u201d \u00a0That said, they reference that now, having brewed the La Parciela, we\u2019d have to find something else to joke about. \u00a0But the joke was really on us.<\/p>\n<p>Was this a good beer? \u00a0Of course it was. \u00a0Cloudy deep orange with a thin beige head, and hosting a creamy hefty body for a \u201cpumpkin\u201d beer, this was very obviously a Jolly Pumpkin beer thanks to the overwhelming sour tartness that covered just about everything else. \u00a0Spices? \u00a0Yeah, they might be in there. \u00a0Cacao? \u00a0Nope, not in my glass. \u00a0Just sour, tart, sourtartness.<\/p>\n<p>We let it open up a little bit to see if the sour would back off and reveal any of the fruit. \u00a0We got it to do so just a touch, but that could have been just my wanting-to-believe imagination. \u00a0It never stopped being too sour to let anything else get through. \u00a0No more joking about pumpkin beers toward Jolly Pumpkin &#8211; but I feel like they may be doing the laughing this season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ryan:<\/strong> The best thing about a Jolly Pumpkin brewed beer is their signature sour and tart flavors.\u00a0 And the worst thing about a Jolly Pumpkin brewed beer is their signature\u00a0 sour and tart flavors.\u00a0 Looking down their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jollypumpkin.com\/artisanales\/beers.htm\">list<\/a> of beers; La Roja, E.S. Bam and the aforementioned Madgad&#8230;Madruda&#8230;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guysdrinkingbeer.com\/2010\/05\/05\/review-jolly-pumpkins-madrugada-obscura\/\">Dark Dawn Stout<\/a> &#8211; well almost all of their offerings &#8211; the funkiness works.\u00a0 But not with the La Parcela.<\/p>\n<p>From the deep copper color to the fluffy beige head, everything about the appearance of this beer screams pumpkin ale.\u00a0 But hover your face over the glass and all you get is tart funk and a <em>very<\/em> subtle hint of cocoa.\u00a0 So far it smells like a Jolly Pumpkin beer, but not a pumpkin beer.\u00a0 Take a sip and you get layers upon layers of puckering tartness, a wee bit of nutmeg and a dash of cocoa.\u00a0 It finishes like it starts; tart.\u00a0 Once again, it tastes like a Jolly Pumpkin beer, but not a pumpkin beer.<\/p>\n<p>At this point we decided to walk away for a bit and give it some time to breathe.\u00a0 Did it help?\u00a0 A little.\u00a0 After it opened up a tad I could pick up a little bit of brown sugar along with the aforementioned flavors, but not enough to overpower the funk.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, this beer was too Jolly Pumpkin-y.\u00a0 If you didn&#8217;t tell me what it was and handed me a glass I would like it, no doubt.\u00a0 If I wasn&#8217;t expecting pumpkin and Fall spices I would be in heaven with this JP offering.\u00a0 But this was meant to
