The famed Munster brewery observes International Women\u2019s Day by making a special IPA <\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

They\u2019ve heard your comments, assumptions and judgment. And they\u2019re having none of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Sunday, a half-dozen women employed by Three Floyds Brewing <\/strong>gathered not just to brew a beer, but to celebrate each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And more than a few men joined them in a show of support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Munster, IN brewery recognized International Women’s Day<\/a> with a beer developed and brewed by women employed at the brewery\u2019s production facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe appreciate the support, but there\u2019s still a long way to go \u2013 not just in brewing, but in the world,\u201d said Abby Titcomb, who\u2019s worked her way up since 2010 from building boxes to not just a Three Floyds brewer, but head distiller at the Three Floyds Distillery<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The beer, dubbed Cake Eater, will be an 8-9% ABV Imperial Black IPA. Apollo hops were added for bittering, plus Mosaic and Galaxy hops added during the dry hop. When it’s released on April 14, it should land somewhere around 90 IBUs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So what\u2019s with the name for a beer that isn\u2019t pastry sweet and involves no cake? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe wanted to show that you can have your cake and eat it, too,\u201d Titcomb said. \u201cIt also plays on something sweet \u2013 it\u2019s what women ‘stereotypically’ want.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just as quickly, she added: \u201cWe\u2019re not here to be patronized or pandered to.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though Titcomb began taking on duties at the Three Floyds Distillery next door over three years ago, she joined with fellow brewer Ashly Brown \u2013 a Three Floyds employee for nearly a decade who began brewing three years ago \u2013 to take the lead on a landmark beer that is part of the continuing efforts of brewery HR director Kelly Pallanti, who even recently started a \u201cWomen Of Three Floyds\u201d group that meets each month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe also invite men to join us in talking about women in the brewing industry, the challenges we face and ways they can support us,\u201d Pallanti said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
