Center Square Journal reports, this morning, on re-development news that is equal parts mysterious, intriguing and exciting.

A “major chain” brewpub is in the works along Lawrence Avenue near Ravenswood.

“Ald. Pawar brought the most mysterious news, as he announced that an unnamed “major chain” plans to open a brew pub near Lawrence and Ravenswood Aves. Pressed for further details after the meeting, Pawar would only say the owners are waiting to file their paperwork once the development timeline for the Mariano’s and the Lawrence Ave. streetscape are solidified.”

Could it be a RAM Restaurant & Brewery? A Gordon Biersch? Or perhaps a Rock Bottom North? (It’s worth noting at this point that Alderman Pawar openly courted Three Floyds via Twitter when they announced an intention to open a Chicago-based brewpub.)

While zoning approval for the Mariano’s is expected later this month the Lawrence Avenue streetscape won’t break ground until next year, so we may have to wait a while to find out who this secretive brewpub is.

But that’s not the only development soon to pop up along Lawrence.

There is also a restaurant planned for the former Chicago Ale House, a bar we had high such high hopes for but wound up mourning what could have been.

“Opened in mid-2007, they were run by the people at the helm of the Cy’s mini-empire of restaurants around Chicago and I personally was hoping that they’d bring some knowledgeable minds and good beers to a part of the city that still hasn’t really left Bavaria when it comes to beer choices. Sadly, that never happened, and Chicago Ale House has left a history of failed expectations, wasted potential and 60 taphandles of disappointment.”

A high-end liquor and wine store is also planned along Lawrence near the Chicago River.

[21
516,559,1107,558
