Perrin Brewing Company Looking To Enter Illinois in August

In Press Release by Karl

Bring on the Grapefruit IPA — beers from Michigan’s Perrin Brewing are coming to Illinois.

With beers from noted Michigan breweries like Short’s and Oddside finally in Illinois, one of the only beers we would mule back from our many summer trips to Michigan has been the offerings from Comstock Park’s Perrin Brewing — specifically their excellent seasonal Grapefruit IPA.

Per a press release sent today, they’re finally ready to dip their toes into the Chicagoland waters this weekend at the Chicago Ale Fest, in advance of a larger launch in late August.

This comes about two and a half years after the brewery sold to the Oskar Blues/Fireman Capital group of breweries (which also includes Cigar City) and Perrin’s growth can pretty fairly be described as “explosive” since hitting the scene in 2012.

Our reviews have been mixed on a number of their other beers (as well as at least one of their beer names, their Poop Your Pants bock) but the taproom beers we enjoyed were excellent, their No Rules porter is awesome and again — that grapefruit IPA, man. Just delicious.

We’ve written on Perrin’s taproom here (still worth a visit this summer) and some of their other cross-organizational efforts as well, like the batch of Cigar City Jai Alai they recently brewed in Michigan.

The only remaining question from us: Since Oskar Blues and Perrin will now be in Chicago and as Cigar City continues to expand distribution further north…when will that Tampa-area beer finally enter Chicagoland?

Sooner rather than later would be lovely, but regardless we’re happy to have Perrin beers in town this summer.

The growth for Perrin Brewing has continued after the collaborative partnership with Oskar Blues Brewery (the first craft brewery in the US to can its beer) in Longmont, Colorado in 2015. Part of this continued growth is from the addition of canned packaging making Perrin beer available at most major retailers across the market. Since the rollout of can distribution, Perrin is prepared to offer packaged beer in several states outside of Michigan.

If you are attending the Chicago Ale Fest, be sure to check out the Perrin Brewing booth, enjoy some samples, and chat with the Perrin reps!
